The first Frederick County Building Industry Association (FCBIA) Home Show was in 1975 at the Frederick Armory, which is now the City of Frederick Parks & Recreation Department. There were 70 vendors from multiple sectors of the homebuilding industry, which drew thousands of visitors.
After the inaugural event, the venue changed to the Frederick Fairgrounds. Since then, it’s been held in a set of heated buildings with select outdoor vendors. So, after more than four decades, what else can you expect at this year’s home show? Warner Service breaks down what to look for:
Environmentally friendly appliances and technologies. Next month’s show will place an emphasis on eco-friendly building and sustainability. “From kitchens and baths to closets and garages; from roofing and siding to decks, hot tubs and landscaping, the [FCBIA] Home Show offers exciting ideas and useful information to turn your dreams into reality,” according to their website.
New products. At the Warner Service booth, our experienced technicians will participate in the eco-friendly initiative by showing off one of our newest products, the Laundry Pro®, in a basement/mechanical room set-up. This cold-water system uses activated oxygen and ActivePure® technology to pull out dirt and grime from clothing fibers, making it a safer, greener, and more cost-effective alternative to traditional washing machines.
We’ll also demonstrate the Air Scrubber by Aerus in a living room set-up. This appliance is a state-of-the art, fully-integrated, 24/7 whole-air purification system that works to reduce virtually all bacteria, viruses, VOCs, and offensive odors in your home. Imagine what other eco-friendly products will be on display.
The latest trends. According to Frederick Magazine, the event “also comes right after the [National Association of Home Builders] International Builders’ Show...where many local contractors learn about the industry’s latest trends.” Homeowners can take advantage of the influx of new ideas for the spring, including landscaping, painting, maintenance, and more.
On-the-spot advice. Many homeowners come to the local builders and contractors at this exhibition with plans in hand. If you know what you want, you can save a lot of time. Instead of researching online reviews and asking for referrals about which HVAC or plumbing company is best, you can meet hundreds of companies under one roof to discuss a project’s next steps.
The Builder Olympics. The most notable change over four decades of the FCBIA Home Show is the addition of the Builder Olympics. The competition, in part with Frederick County Career & Technology Center (CTC), features the teamwork and skill of high school students in various construction trades, like masonry and carpentry. Food. In previous years, the FCBIA Home Show has provided refreshments from Girl Scout Cookies, JB Seafood, Country Concessions, and Hoffman's PA Dutch Funnel Cakes. Here’s hoping for more delicious local fare next month.
